"Whilst, Kelly Oliver's "Grandpa Was A Stoker" is a much more personal song, one that's easy to relate to as you imagine similar sentiment that may have come from a similar relative, though maybe not so well expressed. Here the fiddle really show it's most delicate side, adding touches and flourishes to bring a depth to a passage and to help direct the mood" Neil King, FATEA.
"Grandpa was a Stoker by Kelly Oliver is already blazing a trail as a result of her EP release. She is enthusing audiences wherever she goes and leaving nothing but good vibes in her wake. If you haven’t heard her yet it’s my pleasure to introduce her here". Dave Swarbrick
'I am delighted that Dave Swarbrick was able to put a fiddle part to my song Grandpa Was A Stoker, and so pleased that this new edited version was selected as one of the songs on Swarb's 'Passing the Baton' EP. As a musician, I am always so happy when another musician collaborates on a track of mine, especially with an instrument that I myself cannot play, and so to hear that the legendary Dave Swarbrick's fiddle playing would feature on my song was just incredible.'
Kelly Oliver is fresh onto the folk scene, having only started performing her original material in May 2013. She was encouraged by Keiron and Maureen Jones at Hitchin Folk Club, who after inviting her to support Chris and Kellie While and then Miranda Sykes, gave her the opportunity to open for Luke Jackson at Cambridge Folk Festival this year in the club tent under the auspices of their club. She has since also supported Luke Jackson at Uxbridge Folk Club, The Urban Folk Quartet at Hitchin and is looking forward to supporting Gilmore and Roberts on 23rd March and Musician of the Year nominee Ross Ainslie at the Flag in Watford on April 5th. She is supporting The Young ‘Uns at Ely Folk Club in September and Sunjay Brayne at Cambridge Folk Club in October.
Kelly is performing her track with Swarb on the Wallingford, Oxfordshire date of the tour, 19th April and the Reading date which is 24th April.
