Thanks to Clive Davis at The Sunday Times for featuring in 'Essential Releases'
“Folk blurs into tuneful pop on a showcase for emerging artists who also appear at two concerts in this month’s London Folk and Roots Festival. Kelly Oliver, a Folkstock favourite adds a Celtic lilt to Miles to Tralee, while Minnie Birch – who has already gigged alongside Joan Armatrading – carves out her own mid-Atlantic territory on Nashville. Ben Smith’s Let Me Down Easy is sleek and bluesy. Suspended above skeletal piano and dulcimer, Daria Kulesh’s haunting and enigmatic ballad, The Moon and the Pilot, revisits the bleakest years of Stalin’s rule.” Clive Davis, Sunday Times

about

Track 7 on our DOWNTOWN album, The Moon and the Pilot has been exclusively recorded by Lauren Deakin Davies for Folkstock Records specially for this compilation and also features Kate Rowse.
A song of our time, by default, with lyrical romanticism sweetening the recurrent harsh reality of social displacement caused by war.

Performing at The Islington on 11th November, you can hear Daria live as part of the Emerging Talent night during The London Folk and Roots Festival. Daria is performing along with Kelly Oliver, Zoe Wren and Minnie Birch. Here's the ticket link. Just £10 for the whole evening. Hope to see you there :)

Russian born and well travelled, Daria weaves her innate sensitivity to the nuances of everyday life and her sometimes shocking experiences into her raft of original songs. Largely vocals and guitar, Daria sometimes introduces the bodhran to add some primitive percussion. Rave reviews and album of the week for many radio independent radio stations greeted her debut album Eternal Child and these reviews sums it up perfectly "the most raw and unashamedly revealing collection of songs I’ve heard in a long while...Daria uses these songs to explore acute moments in her life-documentary from the unique perspective of guileless innocence born into all children" "Daria Kulesh has one of the most distinctive and instantly recognisable voices on the folk circuit. Her hauntingly refined and precise singing has an element of the operatic and as you listen she seems to have an ability to evoke images within your psyche which are not yours"
Daria released an album with us earlier this year. You can listen to Eternal Child here folkstockrecords.bandcamp.com/album/eternal-child-daria-kulesh
