Track 4 on the debut album Eternal Child from Daria Kulesh

Tamed

This one is for Julian. Some of you have actually met him. He's the ultimate Mr Nice Guy without being boring. He's got a bit of an Eternal Child about him, too, and an adventurous streak. He is very involved with my music and gives me advice on songwriting (which I sometimes ignore). He puts up with most of my quirks - which alone deserves a medal, or several. At the end of the day, he's the only guy who has managed to tame me (as far as that's even possible).
In moments of smugness, I consider myself immune to bad relationships as the moment someone starts acting weird and wrong towards me I react in such a weird and wrong way that they run a mile... But in reality, I'm quite lucky to have found a good guy. Overall, this is as close to a sweet and soppy love song as I could ever get (which is actually pretty close). I almost died of embarrassment when I first played it to Ben Walker. His jokey response was: Sorry, I already have a girlfriend... :)
The song is also inspired by The Little Prince, a fable by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. One of my most beloved childhood books. “People have forgotten this truth," the fox said. "But you mustn’t forget it. You become responsible forever for what you’ve tamed."

lyrics

Tamed
(for my husband)
I had a grubby little heart
you picked it up in the mud
It was growing, wild and foreign,
on a heap of waste
You took it in, you took it home
and you gave it a scrub
And you put it on the mantelpiece
of our glory days

O-oo, I don't understand
Why you shunned all the roses,
picking me instead?
O-oo, take me by the hand -
we're responsible, forever,
for what we have tamed

Do you remember when we met?
You were strong, you were sure
there was kindness in your eyes
and you rescued me
Together, gently, we will grow
whatever life has in store
and for you I'll be the best
I could ever be

O-oo, do you understand
you are rare, like a raindrop
in a sea of sand?
O-oo, take me by the hand -
we're responsible, forever,
for what we have tamed
