about

Track 3 on Daria Kulesh's debut album Eternal Child
Right Here
(for my parents)

I have always been fascinated by faeries. Not the Disney variety of course, but the crafty, dangerous ones - free, quirky, irreverent, immoral. The ones that steal children from cradles. I have always loved the W.B. Yeats poem, Stolen Child, and Loreena McKennitt's musical version of it. "Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand." I have often wondered if my obsession with art and creativity to the detriment of family ties and sentimentality, strong intuition but weak empathy, as well as disrespect for authority and conformity - if all of these traits are somewhat faerie-like? "Made of light / Rather than dust and clay" – all spirit no flesh. I don't want to accept pain, disease, aging. I want to be an Eternal Child/

lyrics

Right Here
Round and round the garden
as a dreaming child
I was roaming, blissfully beguiled
Long before reality began
I didn't know the world's more full of sorrow
than I could comprehend

Chorus: I've never left that place
my childhood without pain and fear
my charmed and protected space
I'm always staying right here
staying right here

Leave me to my dreaming
it's my only skill
Sometimes it's the only thing that's real
Long before I fell into the trap
I didn't know I had to make excuses
for never growing up

Staying right here
inside my shell
all will be well
all will be well

To stay a child forever
I ran away from home
Didn't know what I was running from
Long before, when I began to flee
I didn't know my innocence was hidden
right here inside of me

Chorus: I've never lost that place
my childhood without pain and fear
my charmed and protected space
It's always staying right here
staying right here
