about

Track 7.
Kelly has enjoyed a whirlwind of a first year as a self penned singer songwriter. Having originally been inspired by the folk tradition, she returned from travelling determined to give her own material a chance to be heard and put all her energy into realising her dream of becoming a professional musician. She decided to add Harmonica to her guitar accompaniment and has since won endorsement from HOHNER. She was delighted to win a financial Emerging Excellence Award from Help Musicians UK to fund her album and thrilled that Diamond Girl, the first single from the album which features the vocals of Luke Jackson was played on BBC Radio Two’s Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe on 1st October and Bob Harris Sunday show mid October.
Kelly’s debut album, This Land, has just received a 4**** review from The Telegraph and has joined their ‘Best Folk Albums of 2014’. This Land also received 4**** from R2 Magazine.
Kelly has performed at Cambridge Folk Festival in both 2013 and 2014 for Hitchin Folk Club, has supported The Young ‘Uns, Chris and Kellie While, Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston, The Urban Folk Quartet, as well as headlining her own gigs. Kelly has performed live with Dave Swarbrick, Sunjay, Luke Jackson, and released a single with Will Pound as well as the current one with Luke Jackson, radio edit of the second track on the album, Diamond Girl.
Kelly has been invited to session for Whispering Bob Harris for his ‘Under The Apple Tree’ show twice, to record at Jon Earl’s famed Songs from the Shed, interview and session with Ruth Barnes on Amazing Radio, perform live on BBC Stations – Three Counties Radio, Cambridgeshire, London, Kent, Gloucestershire, Hereford and Worcester. 2015 is looking busy with new recordings being planned and a range of headline gigs and interesting festivals as well as an interview for Folk Radio UK.

"Track 7 is "Keilan Are You Coming" by Kelly Oliver. The song is a gamesome call for the boy "Keilan", and the singer is certainly waiting. Her voice is distinctive, it is a young Kate Bush but one interspersed in this song with a feeling of highland promises being made, wandering and free-breathing men, "her son is healthy and free.. what more do I need" and a singing tone that is like a Caramac, snappy and purposeful. There is a feeling of liberty, long gone times and simplicity to love regardless of material possessions. An artist to watch for" Peter Taranaski Shedanceswithwolves blog

lyrics

There's a sound in the air tonight, as through the snow we tread.
It's the sound of a crying boy, wanting his mama's bed.
And his hands are shivering, and white from the cold, and his nose is red.
'Darling you're a big boy, and you're being good boy, we're almost home', she said.
There's no hurry for me to have my own son too, there's no hurry,
but Keilan, are you coming to me soon?
Keilan can you hear me, Keilan can you hear me when I think of you?
Keilan are you coming boy, I'm waiting for you.
There's a sound in the shanty towns, as the sunlight burns the street.
It's the sound of a laughing boy, with nothing upon his feet.
And his mother invites me in, she says 'Take a seat. Can I get you a drink, and I don't have much but I'd love you to eat with me.'
And there's rags at her windows, but she doesn't care for those,
'My son is healthy and free', she says, 'what more do I need?'
There's no hurry for me to have my own son too, there's no hurry,
but Keilan, are you coming to me soon?
Keilan can you hear me, Keilan can you hear me when I think of you?
Keilan are you coming boy, I'm waiting for you.
There's a sound in the air tonight, as through the snow we tread.
It's the sound of a crying boy, wanting his mama's bed.
Keilan can you hear me, Keilan are you listening when I think of you?
Keilan, are you?
There's no hurry for me to have my own son too, there's no hurry,
but Keilan, are you coming to me soon?
Keilan can you hear me, Keilan can you hear me when I think of you?
Keilan are you coming boy, I'm waiting for you.
