“a vital voice of British Folk Music..it’s a wonderful track” live on air -Whispering Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
“delightful fresh new talent with a future take on traditional folk” Chris Hawkins, BBC 6 Music
“brand new, very beautiful music from Kelly Oliver. It’s lovely isn’t it ? It REALLY is ” Whispering Bob Harris BBC Radio 2
"The main thing that stuck out about the song for me is the light and shade which you mention. The song kicking in with the chorus is the clincher for me. It's traditional at it's roots but modern in it's production." Baylen Leonard. Amazing Radio
“There was a fine support set from the promising young singer-guitarist Kelly Oliver, an artist who blends traditional values with hints of a bold, indie-pop sensibility”. Clive Davis, The Times
Traditional elements drawn from Kelly’s Irish background and mesmerising voice, with imaginative fiddle and sonorous backing vocals from the folk world's award winning Ciaran Algar combined with the ‘indie-pop’ sensibility of Nigel Stonier who has sailed many a song into the charts via BBC playlisting. Nigel’s co writing involvement and passionate production weaves a variety of well placed instrumental motifs into the fabric, with light and shade a plenty, resulting in an energising, positive and rousing modern anthem, projecting the 'tenacious talk' from the traditional biblical story of Jericho onto the current musical map.
Jericho is Kelly Oliver's first single off her second album
Expected release for Jericho is 11th May 2015.
Jericho will be released on Folkstock Records, who have achieved BBC Radio 2 play for their last three releases.
Jericho was co written and produced by Nigel Stonier who brought in Andy Fairweather Low's drummer Paul Beavis and Alan Lowles on Accordion. Label boss Helen Meissner invited Ciaran Algar who is half of the double award winning BBC 2 Folk Awards, and currently up for a third in 2015 for best duo with Greg Russell.
Jericho was engineered by Seadna McPhail and produced at Airtight Studios in Manchester and we've really pushed the boat out on this song as the feedback from everyone about Kelly Oliver- whom both Bob Harris and Mark Radcliffe spot played with her last single Diamond Girl -was that she was offering something unique in the current musical landscape,

It will be on her second album ( the first one got 4* from The Telegraph and won an album of the year award).
KELLY OLIVER - JERICHO
"Kelly’s brand of Folk is so accessible that you don’t need to be a ‘Strictly Folk’ music junky to enjoy her music. If you like a beautiful voice, lyrics from the heart and warm melodies then Kelly Oliver deserves your attention" Music Crowns
There is an earthly purity to this release from Kelly Oliver that makes her a very exciting prospect indeed. The sharp clarity to the recording and delivery of the 11 tracks that make up the debut album called This Land make her one of the most refreshing vocal talents in some time. The album has already been getting very positive reviews in the UK and on the strength of the tracks below you can see why. Trad Connect
“Kelly Oliver has made a huge impact in a very short time....So what makes Kelly special ? firstly it’s her voice, it’s sweet but strong and it sounds like she enjoys singing. Secondly, she plays harmonica. Thirdly, there is her material..it could be traditional but recounted in contemporary language.” **** R2 Magazine – Dai Jeffries
Just like Joshua at the biblical Jericho Kelly Oliver may have brought down the walls separating a marriage of musical styles, a talent hinted at by a review in The Times of her performing live. “There was a fine support set from the promising young singer-guitarist Kelly Oliver, an artist who blends traditional values with hints of a bold, indie-pop sensibility”. Traditional at the core, but on point with production from Nigel Stonier, Jericho builds innocently from a tender guitar and harmonica entrance to take your breath away as the distinctive, ‘golden’ vocals of Oliver entice. Bouncing, yet perfectly placed percussion from Paul Beavis and feisty fiddle from award-winning Ciaran Algar allow you to recover just in time to embrace the chorus which kicks in with its deep, warm, vocal harmonies. And there is enough light and shade within her performance to assuage the most critical ear. Building triumphantly to its exciting climax, Jericho weaves an analogy of the Old Testament battle into an accessible narrative, giving this catchy, new song the opportunity to empower and engage the most jaded ears. Jericho has already secured play on BBC 6 Music and along with previous BBC Radio 2 for Oliver, this song has the power to propel her into the heart of music lovers the world over.
