about

This track recorded originally by Roxanne de Bastion and released on her label Nomad Records, on the 'The Real Thing' album has been re recorded here, with the added sonorous cello of Raphael Knapp, courtesy of Lauren Deakin Davies at Folkstock Records.
It is being released to mark the untimely death of US comedian and satirical social critic, Bill Hicks, which was an astonishing 20 years ago. 'Here's Tom with the Weather' has been released on 26th February to commemorate his life. We hope you enjoy the track which has been written by Roxanne who was inspired by Bill and drew strength from his fearless social commentary.

lyrics

an ode to the life and work of Bill Hicks
lyrics
Here’s Tom with the weather

You can’t accuse me of having no conviction
You can’t accuse me of wanting fame or fortune
Only that I saw so much contradiction
Only that I knew how to spell it out

Some natural inspiration
Some natural doubt

I watched the bandwagon approach me
I waved and let it pass me by
I watched American Gladiators
switched it off and went outside

Some disastrous invention
Some incredible design

I don’t believe the pope and bishop
I don’t believe the Marlborough man
I believe in evolution
I believe in the good of man

Some rational conclusion
some truth that lies at hand

I left in love
I left in laughter
I left in truth and wherever truth, love and laughter abides, I abide
