about

Track 5 Castles by Minnie Birch.
Minnie Birch is a treat, from Hemel Hempstead.
She is a regular visitor on BBC Three Counties and has been on Bobs Folk show.
She was chosen by Joan Armatrading to support her last year at a local date on her tour.
“Seriously, we cannot fault her voice. With her acoustic guitar as company, Minnie Birch gentle strums and finger-picks provide a shivering and solemn stage for her voice to take flight from. It’s highly melodic yet understated, but it all is executed perfectly” Commerical Free UK

Minnie Birch is another artist that is really starting to spread her wings and come into her own. Her folk oriented songs are rich with pop sensibilities that in years gone by would have seen her gaining late night slots on shows like “Whistle Test” and whilst those opportunities to perform may have gone, songs like “Castle” show that the talent is still out there.

“The F Spot” runs quality all the way through it and is definitely worth checking out as there is so much to discover and react to. It’s a great EP full of songs, thoughtfully produced by young producer, Lauren Deakin Davies" Neil King, Fatea.

"Castles" starts as an almost Mediterranean metronome of a song and a budding, flowering and beautiful voice with lines such as, "she is furious cus you always get there first". Then the track by Minnie Birch builds in a natural way; the musical accompaniment grows and is particularly effective on this track, the glockenspiel (I presume) has a great biting chime and the minor harmonies are expertly engineered. It all works towards a pleasing sound and an experience that will carve a unique niche in musical circles in time to come." Peter Taranaski, Shedanceswithwolves blog

lyrics

We leave you alone, to pick over the bones of an empire
As you self-implode, after nights spent un-weaving your own gold
And she is furious. She wanted to be your undoing
And she is furious. Because you always get there first.

Just look around, who knew they’d build castles here?
And just let it out that your princes fall for thimbles now.
And we are furious. We wanted to be your undoing.
And we are furious. Because you always get there first.

And I will work your fingers to the bone for this one
Because when morning comes you wont be able to guess
That if you set alight to one then they’ll just all burn.
I can promise.

Who knew they’d build castles here?
Who knew they’d build castles here?
You’ll watch your Princes fall for thimbles.
