about

The exquisite string arrangement was masterminded by the legendary Robert Kirby, who conducted the live recording just one week before his untimely and unexpected death in 2010. Robert was best known for his work with Nick Drake but also features Linda Thompson, Elton John, The Magic Numbers and Ralph McTell in his stellar discography. Robert was approached by James Edge at a tribute night to Nick Drake, at which James was playing Nick’s 'Three Hours' and Robert was so impressed that he agreed to arrange the strings on this track creating a recording to be savoured at leisure, reminiscent of John Martyn and Danny Thompson sweetened by the unmistakeable beauty evident in Nick Drake’s works.

lyrics

Becoming
From In The Hills, The Cities by James Edge And The Mindstep

Drift in the swell been swept aside
Craving you one wave more
Nothing to be found / left to find
Floating away to the shore

And its a strange thing to ride
This changing tide

Breeze on the sail been blown away
Waving you my way more
Nothing to be said / left to say
You are the wave I adore

Splashing around been lost at sea
Craving your ways once more
And I'll be becoming just to be
Riding your waves to the shore
