Spark 03:40
I’ll be here under your blue skies Going along with your simple lies I know that it’s wrong but I still carry on I’ll wait for you to pass the red light When all we should be saying is goodnight But I just can’t quit, I want you more than a little bit So take this flame don’t blow it out Until only a spark remains will it fill me with doubt Oooh Oooh Oooh I just can’t quit, I want you more than a little bit I don’t see this as my surrender Nor am I trying to be just like her Because that’s your past and I hope I’m your last So I’ll hold onto you for forever Cause no one will love you better And no I won’t quit, I want you more than a little bit So take this flame don’t blow it out Until only a spark remains will it fill me with doubt Oooh Oooh Oooh I just can’t quit, I want you more than a little bit Two steps backwards, I still fall forwards Too much to hold, I’ve already been told This is not good but I need you more than I should Oh more than I should So take this flame don’t blow it out Until only a spark remains will it fill me with doubt Oooh Oooh Oooh I just can’t quit, I want you more than a little bit

Don’t worry darling I’m just across the sea And I only need to close my eyes to feel you next to me For you I’d drink the ocean dry to bring your home to mine Cause I’d do anything to make our paths align So scream out your battle cry we will fight the miles Cause to have you in my arms again makes it all worthwhile I don’t want to loose you cause I think I’ve finally found Someone who sends me flying and I don’t want to touch the ground I’ll write your name in the sky So you can see it from your rooftop at night I’ll send my heart to where you lie And it will hold you tight Just say we’ll be alright I don’t know how I found you but somehow I’m standing here And going back to strangers is the only thing I fear I guess we found each other is what I said to you that day The one where I decided that I just wanted to stay I’ll write your name in the sky So you can see it from your rooftop at night I’ll send my heart to where you lie And it will hold you tight Just say we’ll be alright What is this I’ve never known anything this strong Simple bliss That with you I’m where I belong I’ll write your name in the sky So you can see it from your rooftop at night I’ll send my heart to where you lie And it will hold you tight Cause this is right Just say we’ll be alright

Final Bow 03:55
Oooh you remind me of the summer The days were getting warmer My head was on your shoulder Oooh, we just got out the coldest season And I don’t have a reason, My heart is back again on you Cause maybe it’s hard to fall back in love When you’ve fallen out before Maybe if we try we’ll keep coming back again For more Cause you give me, Something I can’t replace I think you see, I saw it in your face You want it, so come and catch me now And don’t let us take the final bow Oooh I don’t know why I’m frightened I wish to be enlightened with the presence of your smile Oooh but your name spells danger I don’t want to fall for a stranger I hope that what I knew is what i know now Cause maybe it’s hard to fall back in love When you’ve fallen out before Maybe if we try we’ll keep coming back again For more Cause you give me, Something I can’t replace I think you see, I saw it in your face You want it, so come and catch me now And don’t let us take the final bow Cause maybe it’s hard to fall back in love When you’ve fallen out before Maybe if we try we’ll keep coming back again For more Cause you give me, Something I can’t replace I think you see, I saw it in your face You want it, so come and catch me now And don’t let us take the final bow

It Is 03:32
Fire those words at me The ones that make me believe There is nothing else I could ever do To stop my heart from wanting you Cast your eyes across my face that look that can't be replaced and somehow it just makes me feel this can't be happening this isn't real oh and it is oh but it is oh and it's wonderful oh and it is oh but it is oh and it's beautiful Clasp my hand inside of yours Cause I don't think I could take anymore Of these butterflies Lifting me to the skies And it's you who makes me that way And the only thing I ask is to stay Holding you I'd never ask for more Is this what I've been waiting for It is oh and it is It's wonderful oh and it is oh but it is and it's beautiful Oh It is Yes it is It's wonderful oh and it is Yes it is It's beautiful

about

“a showering of fine songs presented with a divine culture and elegance... the first shots of a career which has the potential to span the worlds of folk, pop and country. ..opportunities to shape the future direction of the original and traditional songbook are enticing. Selecting a favourite is a near impossible task as each sparkles with imaginative writing and flawless vocals merging into the majestic music making. The experience may be a brief quarter of an hour but you surface richer and enlightened by the exposure.
The Barnet based artist has been working with John Dines, Benny Beaumont and Lauren Deakin Davies on this project and together the writing, musical arrangement and production has seamlessly evolved into a record capable of moving, delighting and just plain impressing the listener
Kaity Rae is a burgeoning special talent”
Three Chords and the Truth

"In all honesty if this track was being released by a ‘name’ artist then it would chart top 10 and probably top 5 no problem at all. Not that the charts are always an accurate measure of ability but without doubt this girl has talent. You might look at this track and think that it’s just your standard pop ballad and basically you would be right but you can’t deny that this track is also a ridiculously good pop ballad.

Kaity Rae’s voice is fantastic, like a fine single malt whisky it glides beautifully smoothly over the delicate acoustic guitar based backdrop, but there is even more to her than that. Lyrically I think this tune really stands up as well. Lines like;

“I don’t see this as my surrender, nor am I trying to be just like her, because that’s your past and I hope that I’m your last, so I’ll hold on to you for forever.”

Demonstrate a talent and maturity beyond her years. I’m a sentimental old romantic at heart so when it’s done well as it is here I love a good heartfelt ballad.

If this is just a taste of things to come then writing the review the EP will be easiest thing in the world. It’s impossible to totally judge an artist off the back of one song so I will refrain from trying to do so, but my God Kaity Rae you have just made a quite brilliant first impression" themusicaloutcast.com.

I will make no apology for starting off another review with the words, "I can't believe just how much talent singer-songwriters in the acoustic spectrum display at such a young age." The reason I won't apologise it's because it's a truism and a truism that applies to Kaity Rae, who has just release her debut EP, "Spark" on Folkstock.

Just seventeen, multi instrumentalist Kaity Rae, has already won awards for her songwriting and been selected to be on the Roundhouse Emerging Artist program and just started a songwriting degree to home her already considerable talent.

Regardless of where she goes with her lead instrument, she's just as happy with the piano as she is with the six string, you always feel that Rae has always had the vision on where she wants to go and expertly selects the transport to get it there.

There is, at times, an almost naive sense to her writing, but that comes out of experience, or a lack of them, which allows a certain amount of rose tainting in the glasses department, but also gives a beautiful honesty, because that's what the artist has seen and that's how they've been inspired and it feels good to get away from some of the more cynical songs that we have become used to hearing coming of out that acoustic pop world.

It gives her songs that something slightly different and you can see how her material can sit comfortably alongside more cynical pieces and create a real, light and shade. I know I say this a lot, but Kaity is an artist to look out for. She knows how to put a song together and has found a sound in a very crowded space. Some of her support slots, with the likes of Merry Hell, show that she's beginning to notice, "Spark" can surely only add to that recognition.
Neil King, FATEA

"Rae's singing on the title track shows you straight away that her voice has depth and emotion there are times she has the vitality of Lily Allen and also she has that unadorned rawness of the pre-punk Kate Nash but has the quality of softness and clarity which has become The Staves trademark.
Across the Sea is a lovely soft ballad where Rae's voice seems to take on a new level of maturity while at the same time keeping that vibrancy of a youthful sound.
There are even times when she tackles the high notes when you can hear overtones of the late great Eva Cassidy.
With track three, Final Blow, Rae seems most at home and you get more of a feel for the soul and colour in her singing. The track has a torch song feel and the hopping rhythm has a sinister edge to it almost like a track from Pulp Fiction and Rae's voice while girlish; almost skittish in places has a contradictory world weary quality to it. The final track, It Is, is executed perfectly and the simple piano accompaniment allows Raes' gorgeous tones to come to the fore. It's on this track you get a feeling there is so much more from this talented Barnet girl.
Spark is a very appropriate title as it was released on Bonfire Night and could well be what sets her career alight.
Spark is available now through Folkstock Records, digital downloads and on Spotify." Danny Farragher FOlkAll

"This is a debut EP from 17 year old singer-songwriter Kaity Rae from North London, released through the rapidly expanding Folkstock Records label (home to Kelly Oliver amongst others). In a sentence…some shockingly talented songwriting applied to an acoustic folk-pop soundscape that provides the perfect platform for a fresh and notably distinctive voice. For a debut EP this is impressive stuff.

‘Across the Sea’ is a simple but quite lovely acoustic driven track that builds to a nice conclusion, whilst the ballad ‘It Is’ rings out over arpeggiated piano. ‘Final Bow’ is a bit different…a swing influenced (almost rockabilly in places) tune that nonetheless sits nicely in the EP and shows off a nice depth to Kaity’s vocal

But the star of the show is defintely the title-track ‘Spark’ which is an anthemic little pop masterpiece….seriously catchy and really nicely performed and produced.

Definitely a name to keep on your radar and an EP to get your hands on when it’s released on Bonfire night this year…(See the ‘Spark’ connection? Bonfire night? Pretty cool eh?)" Redwood - Rob Bridge

“Kaity Rae's slightly gritty, smoky tone is just fantastic.
She would probably have been banned by the BBC 40 odd years ago” Danny Farragher, Folkall Blogspot

Debut EP from Kaity Rae which is being released on 5th November. The title track Spark is being released on 23rd October.
Having only just turned 17, Barnet based Kaity Rae has just started a song writing degree fresh from studying vocals at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London. Kaity won a Best Young Songwriter Award at the Love Folk Live Showcases in early 2014. She is an ‘Emerging Artist’ with the Roundhouse, had one of her songs featured on their 30/30 album for 2013, gained a coveted place in the GIGS : Big Busk Young Songwriter 2014 competition and has had airplay on regional BBC radio as well as Amazing Radio. Her music is best described as acoustic singer/songwriter, with main influences from country, folk and pop.
Kaity had her song 'It Is' previewed on the first Folkstock compilation album, Femmes Fatales of Folk.
Here are some quotes about Kaity's track on the Folkstock
release, It Is :
It's perhaps not the done thing to describe a female folk singer as having a sexy voice, but then part of the culture of folk music is subversion, so it's a plain simple fact Kaity Rae's slightly gritty and smoky tone is just fantastic.
The way she sings It Is would probably have been banned by the BBC 40 odd years ago, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Danny Farragher

Kaity Rae’s voice has a different quality altogether, it sounds somehow like your own private thoughts; and I think that there must be a technical reason for that because a few moments in to the track, I realised that her voice was resonating perfectly with both the piano strings and the wires under the snare drum. The whole room seemed to be responding to her voice and asking to join in. Her guitar work, with its plucks and its slides is superb too, but she allows her voice to stand tall above it and to shimmer out and touch everything.
